Final-year Physiotherapy students showcased their skills at the Physiotherapy Student Strapping Competition hosted by the South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP) at the Durban North Action Cricket Arena.
The annual contest, held during the Comrades Marathon Expo, attracted entrants from five universities, including UKZN, who assisted in preparing athletes for the iconic race.
The Sefako Makgatho University (SMU), the University of the Free State (UFS), the University of Pretoria (UP), the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS), and UKZN were each represented by a team of five or more members.
For the first time, the competition featured three clinical scenarios across three rounds, with the top two universities advancing to a final round to determine the overall winner.
UKZN did not advance to the final round for the first time since the competition resumed post-COVID-19 with UFS being the victors followed by UP and WITS.
Despite not making it to the final, UKZN’s spirit and enthusiasm were commendable, while the University’s iLembe mascot made a significant impact, symbolising the Institution’s vibrant and supportive community.
UKZN’s Physiotherapy Department remains immensely proud of their efforts and achievements and the experience they gained has set them up to do well in future competitions.
