The Edgewood campus’ environmental forum joined other organisations in a clean-up of Blue Lagoon Beach in Durban.
Edgewood Environmental Forum (EEF) is a community based non-profit organisation that educates and raises awareness of environmental consciousness. Members joined hands with governmental, non-governmental, profit and non-profit organisations in a coastal clean-up.
Organised by the eThekwini Municipality, KZN Ezemvelo Wildlife and its associates, the clean-up is an annual event that aims to educate the public about the importance of caring for and protecting biodiversity as well as their environment and surroundings, especially threatened plants and animals.
The project was led by Mr Luthando Molefe, EEF Deputy Chairman.
Following the clean-up, EEF members attended the Sustainable Living Exhibition at the Durban International Convention Centre as representatives of UKZN’s School of Education. The three-day exhibition was organised by the eThekwini Municipality in partnership with other organisations.
The “Teachers for Sustainable Living” stand was organised by the School of Education on the Edgewood campus under the leadership of Dr Angela James, Academic Leader of Community Engagement at the School.
Work done by students and academics within the School was displayed. The work ranged from science and technology education, to social sciences, language and arts education and other clusters within the School.
This was also an opportunity for the School to advertise its range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
